When someone leaves the LGBTQ+ lifestyle to follow Jesus, it isn’t just a spiritual decision—it’s an emotional, social, and often traumatic upheaval. They're not simply walking into a church building. They're stepping out of a tightly knit community. They're laying down an identity that often provided structure, meaning, and a sense of family.
The cost is real. The grief is often invisible. And in many churches, the discipleship gap is wide.
Right now, many believers are praying for revival. They’re asking God to bring people back to His heart, to call prodigals home, to awaken the spiritually dead. But what happens when He answers that prayer—and the people who walk in the doors don’t look, sound, or feel like who the Church expected?
At Transformed by God’s Love (TBGL), we walk closely with those who have made the courageous decision to surrender their former LGBTQ+ identities to follow Christ. What they’re experiencing behind the scenes is rarely talked about, but urgently needs to be heard.
“Nobody told me leaving the LGBTQ life would feel this lonely,” one person shared. The silence after leaving their former community was deafening. They found themselves in the in-between—no longer part of LGBTQ+ spaces, yet unsure if they truly belonged in the Church.
Another admitted, “Nobody told me I’d grieve a life I chose to leave behind.” This grief doesn’t cancel their obedience. It validates their humanity. They mourn friendships, moments of connection, even parts of themselves they once clung to for meaning.
“Nobody told me how much shame would try to come back,” someone said with tears in their eyes. Even after turning to Christ, the enemy returns, whispering old lies: You’re still broken. You’re not really changed. In these moments, it’s essential that the Church knows how to speak truth in love—louder than accusation.
“I still miss the touch,” one person shared honestly. It wasn’t about sexual desire—it was about the longing for connection, for the warmth of being seen, known, and cared for. In many church communities, expressions of healthy, godly affection are rare or awkward, leaving people hungry for meaningful connection. But real healing often begins with safe touch, shared presence, and spiritual family that isn’t afraid to love deeply and physically—in ways that reflect Christ’s embrace.
Then there’s the silence. “Nobody told me the Church wouldn’t always know what to say.” This wasn’t said in anger—just sadness. Many churches welcome with smiles but stop short of walking closely. The distance hurts.
Another said, “I feel like I don’t belong anywhere.” Too “Christian” for their old LGBTQ+ circle. Too “different” for some Christian communities. The result? Feeling invisible—again.
And then came this: “I don’t even know who I am without that identity.” For years, being LGBTQ+ shaped their self-image, their friendships, even their sense of value. Now that it’s gone, they’re trying to figure out who they are in Christ—but without guidance, that process can feel like spiritual vertigo.
These aren’t hypotheticals. These are real people in our communities, in our life groups, or maybe still watching from a distance, wondering if the Church will truly make space for them—not just for a moment, but for the long haul.
At TBGL, we’re committed to filling that gap.
We offer:
If you’re a believer struggling to stay the course after leaving behind your old life—we’re here for you.
If you’re a church leader wondering how to disciple someone coming out of LGBTQ+ culture—we’re here for you, too.
You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to be present, humble, and willing. Revival is messy. Discipleship is long. But Jesus is worth it.
Let’s not miss the move of God by being unprepared to carry the people He’s redeeming.
Let’s Walk This Road—Together.
