Psalm 139 is my favourite Psalm and one that I have been reminded of three times this morning and it’s only just 9am!
Why is this Psalm so special to me?
Having spend 30 plus years in the wilderness, that is, apart from God, doing my own thing, I can attest to that fact that there was nowhere I went where I escaped him. Sure, I stuffed thoughts of him down, I tried to find my significance and worth elsewhere, but somehow, he was always there. In my darkest moments of fear, I prayed. In my moments of witnessing a beautiful sunset, I knew that it was God who created the heavens and the earth. When I stood before the ocean, I remembered the words of a childhood song – wide, wide as the ocean, high as the havens above, deep, deep as the deepest sea, is my Saviour’s love.
I pushed back, I stifled those thoughts, I rejected the truth, yet God never rejected me.
Whatever your situation today; whether you are praying for a child who has rejected God, or you yourself have rejected Him for a lie, remember this Psalm, we may try and hide, we may try and deny his existence, but he is always there, waiting patiently for us to notice and respond.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
Psalm 139:7-12
