God's Child

This Christmas our hearts are with the many families who will sit with an empty space at the table where a son or daughter once sat.  Our heart for 2025 is to see reconciliation between parents and LGBTQ+ children who have come from Christian homes, and we are already working on some resources to encourage conversation.
This poem is for all our Abba’s Heart members.

GOD’S CHILD
Unto us a child is born,
A child, a birth, memories stir,
Unto us a son is given
Holding my child in wonder, son or daughter, a gift from heaven.
Like Bethlehem, hopes and dreams were stirred that night,
My child, your child God, will walk in the light.
Yet something within me feels hope slip away,
what joy can I have on Christmas day?
My child has gone, devoid of care,
A place set at table, an empty chair.
Despair….
Arise, wake early, things to prepare,
Arise and Shine I hear him say,
Shine, how Lord?
Arise and shine for your light has come,
God’s glory on me despite my pain.
Darkness, the earth is full of darkness,
people shrouded deep in shadow,
children bewitched by ungodly rainbows.
Yet hear the promise of your Lord,
“Lift up your eyes and look about you,
Your sons come from afar,
Your daughters carried on the hip.”
You look, you are radiant,
Your heart will throb and swell with joy.
His reminder of what he will do,
the Lord has not neglected you.
He’s heard the prayer of a righteous mum,
He’s seen the tears of a righteous man
calling their child home.
Good fathers don’t give their child a stone,
how much more does God want them home?
Ask and you will receive,
Shoulder to shoulder we stand
believing for the promised land.
Interceding with Jesus at the Father’s right hand.
Fanning the flames,
declaring all strongholds are broken in Jesus name.
